M Basketball: Briseno Nets 35 Points But Not Enough in Conference Opener

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Sophomore guard Ricky Briseno scored a season high 35 points in the Rustlers Orange Empire Conference opening loss to Riverside City College, 100-77.

Briseno had the hot hand in the second half scoring 27 of his game high 35 points while hitting five three pointers but it wasn't enough to comeback on the visiting Tigers. Sophomore guards Kameron Small and Maliq Neurell each chipped in 13 points apiece as the Rustlers fall to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in OEC play.

The Rustlers came out with alot of engery early but Riverside seemed to settle into their game plan and was able to build a 53-31 halftime lead after trailing in the games first four minutes. Golden West didn't go down without a fight in the second half as they pulled within 11 points of the lead 68-57 with about 11 minutes left to play but that would be as close as the Rustlers would come.

Golden West is on the road Friday, Decemeber 17 to take on Saddleback College at 5pm.
