Softball: Splits Another Doubleheader at Home

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Rustler softball team hosted the College of the Desert Roadrunners for a doubleheader on Monday afternoon. One game was dominated by pitching and the other by hitting as the Rustlers would split the games and are now 8-6 on the year.

Game 1

The first game of the day was dominated by pitcher Michelle Sheedy. The Roadrunners took the lead 1-0 in the first inning but that would be their lone run of the contest as Sheedy would settle in and shut them down, not surrendering another run in the contest.

The Rustler offense supported Sheedy grinding their way to four runs on their way to a complete team win 4-1. Madlyn Burton, Jasmine Vasquez and Karen Simpson were responsible for the Rustler's RBI's as Sheedy recoded her third win.

Game 2

Game one starter Michelle Sheedy started game two as well, but after two solid innings, fatigue set in as the third inning came and Golden West surrendered five runs before Sheedy was relieved by Myah Norduist. Norduist struggled in relief surrendering four runs of her own.

The game seemed to be out of reach until a controversial out call by the umpires sparked the Rustler offense who scored six runs in the fifth inning bringing the score to 9-8. However, reliever Lauren Robinson for Desert shut down Golden West's late inning comeback by not surrendering a run in two innings as the Rustlers would fall 9-8.
