The 2011 all-Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball team was released recently with Golden West’s Bill Lawler being named as conference coach of the year and Rustler setter Klaire Blasco earning the conference’s Most Valuable Player award.
Two of the top teams in Southern California put on an amazing show for two hours inside the Peterson Gymnasium at Orange Coast College on Wednesday night, but in the end, it was the guests who left happier than the hosts.
The Lasers pushed Orange Empire Conference leading Golden West to the brink, but came up a little short in a five-set loss on Dig Pink night at Irvine Valley. Golden West pulled out the win, 25-20, 23-25, 15-25, 25-23, 16-14.
The Golden West College women’s volleyball team defeated Santa Ana Dons in three straight games in an Orange Empire Conference match. The Rustlers eliminated Santa Ana by scores of 25-13, 25-6 and 25-18.
Lifting the lid on the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) campaign, the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers dropped their opener to the visiting Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers, 3-1, losing by the set (game) scores of 16-25, 26-24, 25-16, and 25-17, at RCC’s Catharine Huntley Gymnasium Friday night.
