
The Golden West College Rustlers women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep over the Santa Ana College Dons in a home conference match on Wednesday night. With precise attacking and strong defensive play, the Rustlers secured set wins of 25-23, 25-12, and 25-17.
The first set was tightly contested, with the Dons pushing the Rustlers to the limit. However, Golden West held their composure, edging out Santa Ana 25-23. The Rustlers carried that momentum into the second set, dominating with a .464 hitting percentage and overwhelming the Dons 25-12.
In the final set, the Rustlers maintained their intensity, sealing the sweep with a 25-17 victory. Outside hitter Hayden Johnston led the charge with 11 kills on 27 attempts (.259), while Trinity Webber added 9 kills with an impressive .375 hitting percentage. Setter Cassandra Zoellers orchestrated the offense, dishing out 32 assists to keep the Rustlers' attack in rhythm.
Golden West's defense was also in top form, with Jenna Zaffino collecting 11 digs and the team collectively holding Santa Ana to a .011 hitting percentage.
The Rustlers will look to build on this strong performance as they continue their conference campaign improving to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Santa Ana drops to 6-12 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
