M Volleyball: Pank and Ludlum Lead Rustlers to 5 Set Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West College men's volleyball squad earned their first victory of the 2019 campaign over Moorpark College in 5 sets, 25-15, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25, 15-11.

The Rustlers (1-1) were led by setter Brandon Pank and his big 31 assists to go along with his eight kills and outside hitter Conner Ludlum and his nine kills in 23 chances for a .304 kill percentage. Pank also contributed five digs and two block solo's while Ludlum led the Rustlers with four block solo's.

Golden West took a quick 2-0 led over Moorpark (1-1) to get the match started but the Raiders were able to take advantage of the Rustlers 16 service errors in the third and fourth sets to comeback. With the match tied 2-2, Golden West was able to get some early momentum in the deciding set with 5-1 lead to cause the Raiders to take a timeout to regroup. The timeout was what the Raiders needed to try and win the match as they were able to tie the Rustlers 7-7. Unfortunately, that was as close as Moorpark would get to taking a lead in the fifth set as the Rustlers were able to step on the gas pedal to win the fifth set 15-11 and the match 3-2.

Outside hitter Matthew Coleman and middle back Theodore Howard led the Ruslters with 11 kills apiece to also guide the Rustlers to victories.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to San Diego Mesa on Friday February 8th for a 6pm start.
