Opening Weekend Shows Promise For Rustlers

Bakersfield, Calif - Rustler baseball returns from Bakersfield where they spent opening weekend of the 2012 baseball season.  Golden West dropped to 1-2 on the season.

The Rustlers went scoreless in their first game not mustering my offense as they only could squeeze in 5 hits on the evening.  Golden West's starting pitcher Jason Deitrich (0-1) took the loss with six innings pitched giving up 2 hits and 1 run.

Later, another slow start for the Rustlers as they dropped a 6-8 decision verse Moorpark.  A late rally in the sixth inning wasn't enough momentum to overcome a 4 run deficit.  Center fielder Donald Sneed and third baseman Bobby Webb generated over 60% of the Rustler's offense and combined for all of the Rustler's RBIs.

The third game was a charm for the Rustlers as they found signs of life playing as the designated "home team" against LA Pierce for this final game of the road trip. It wasn't until the Bottom of the 3rd inning when Alex Hernandez's base hit drove in Bobby Webb and Kyle Jones to put the Rustlers up for the first time.  Neither team scored for the next few innings, until Golden West loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th inning when Eric Gonzalez was walked with bases loaded scoring Chase Harrison.  Next batter, Danny Baker, hit a sacrifice fly out to center field that drove home Kyle Jones as the final run of the Rustler road trip and defeating LA Pierce 5-2.

Golden West is back in action on Tuesday, February 7th as they host Cerritos College in a non-conference matchup slated to start at 2:00pm.
