Rustlers Defuse The Dons 8-4

Santa Ana, Calif. - The Rustlers defused the Dons offense, walking away with an 8-4 victory. Santa Ana (12-2, 1-1) started the first inning strong, but Golden West (8-7, 1-1) recovered at the top of the fourth to clinch the win in the Orange Empire Conference game. 

The Rustlers go the first run of the game as they took advantage of a leadoff walk. After Frank Califano drew the walk, he stole second base eventually scoring on a sacrafice fly by Solomon Williams. The Dons answered in the bottom of the first inning with three runs to grab a 3-1 lead on Golden West. 

At the top of the fourth inning, Williams advanced around the bases thanks to a single from Andrew Yazdanbakhsh and a single up the middle from Kyle Jones. Bobby Webb scored on an unearned run and Jones came home. The Rustlers three-run inning was aided by the Dons error along with two hits and a walk. The fifth inning run was scored by Nicolas Marshall on a single to left field by Yazdanbakhsh.

The Dons were able to cut the Rustlers lead 5-4 in the sixth inning, but they were unable to get the equalizing run. 

Golden West had the last word at the top of the ninth when Thomas Walker doubled to center field to send Steve Pascual and Califano home. Walker then scored on an unearned run after a throwing error by the Dons pitcher.
