Rustlers Look Past Loss To Bounce Back Friday

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Dons baseball took the win back to Santa Ana today, defeating Golden West 9-4. Now tied in conference play, the two teams are battling for the better position in the OEC. Santa Ana (11-12, 4-6) rallied in the 9th inning for the win leaving the Rustlers (15-7, 4-6) who held the lead until the 9th with a bitter ending. 

Santa Ana scored first in the top of the 2nd with a single RBI bringing a Don home, but with two players both grounding out to second base, the inning was over with one run. 

The Rustlers rounded home in the bottom of the 3rd when Frank Califano scored on an unearned run. Califano singled to get on base, with Keegan Reeser following suit with a single of his own, then Califano came home thanks to an error from Santa Ana's first base. Daniel Dewolf got on base too thanks to the same error from first base, and both Dewolf and Reeser scored on unearned runs. 

At the top of the 5th, the Dons brought another player home, still trailing the Rustlers by 1. But in the top of the 7th, Santa Ana took the lead with 2 more runs. 

Golden West scored their last run in the bottom of the 8th with Thomas Walker crossing home plate on a fly out to center field by Kyle Jones

The Dons finished the game strong with 5 more runs added to the scoreboard, 2 of which were unearned runs. 

Golden West will face Santa Ana again Friday on the road at 2:00pm.
