Tangle With The Tigers

Huntington Beach, Calif. -  Riverside overtook the Rustlers in a 2-1 victory at Fred Hoover field Thursday afternoon. Golden West (13-17, 6-9) was looking for a repeat defeat of the Tigers (19-11, 8-7) as they battled to sweep the 2 game series.

Golden West delivered a strong defensive game against the Orange Empire Conference's No. 3 team, grabbing flies in the outfield and stopping the ball in the infield.  The top of the 2nd inning saw three Tigers, and three outs. Despite Golden West advancing the bases, third was as far as the men got for the first seven innings.  

Riverside put up a run first in the top of the 6th inning 2 hits in the inning giving the RBI and Tigers scored unearned. The team scored again in the top of the 7th with a series of offensive moves bringing Riverside's Michael Deceglie home after singling to get on base. 

The bottom of the 8th inning brought the Rustlers within 1 of Riverside as Thomas Walker, who singled on his at bat, was brought home by Soloman Williams. Walker stole second and with Williams at bat, was able to put the Rustlers on the score board.

With substitutions, and a last effort by Golden West, they connected with the ball, but couldn't turn bases. With a single hit, the game was over and the Rustlers lost by 1.
