Baseball Edges IVC Out 8-7

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West defeated Irvine Valley 8-7 in a close match up at Fred Hoover field on Thursday. The Rustlers (14-19, 7-11) will host one more home game before the end of the 2013 regular season.

The Lasers ((10-21, 5-12) are trailing the Rustlers in the Orange Empire Conference by 2 games as the season comes to a close. Golden West is ranked third in the conference for hitting, pitching, and fielding. 

The game started evenly matched, the teams scoring run for run in the second through fifth inning. Irvine took a slight lead in the top of the 5th with 2 runs coming home putting the score at 6-7. 

It was in the bottom of the 6th when Thomas Walker hit a triple to bring home Sean Whiteman for the score tying run. Teammate Soloman Williams was walked,  and then on a wild pitch by IVC, Whiteman made it home.

The remainder of the game proved scoreless and the Rustlers finished victorious. 

Next, the men travel to IVC to play at noon.
