Big Inning Dooms Rustlers

Big Inning Dooms Rustlers

After scoring early, Cerritos put up a 4-run seventh inning and held on to give Golden West a 5-2 loss at Hoover Field.

Golden West (9-6) got to Cerritos (6-6) right away as Jordan Lucio and Michael Farris reached on errors. Cerritos totaled 3 errors that inning, but the Rustlers were unable to score.

Runs eventually did cross the plate for Golden West in the third inning. Farris lead off the inning with a double and ended up scoring on a wild pitch. Connor Larson singled in Frank Califano for the second run of the inning. Unfortunately for the Rustlers, those two runs were the only scores of the afternoon.

Golden West starter Tanner Brown went 6 solid innings giving up only 1 run on 7 hits and striking out 2. Brown was relieved by David Wiggins to start the seventh and that is where the wheels fell of for the Rustlers.

Cerritos scored a run in the sixth inning, but came out in the seventh inning strong and put up four runs. The Birds put multiple hits together, most of them flairs to the outfield, and did a good amount of damage with two outs.

Golden West begins Orange Empire Conference play on Thursday at Fullerton, and the next home game will be March 6 against Irvine Valley at 2 p.m.
