Santa Ana rattles Rustlers

Santa Ana went on a hitting expedition and handed Golden West a 14-2 loss at Hoover field.

It was a day Golden West (11-10, 2-4) wants to forget as Santa Ana (13-6, 4-2) put on an offensive clinic at the hands of the Rustlers' pitching staff. The game started out as a pitchers duel between starting pitchers Tanner Brown and Tyler Sloan. Brown had a decent outing for Golden West giving up 4 runs on 11 hits, striking out 6 in 6 innings.

After 4 innings of shutout baseball, Santa Ana was able to draw first blood in the fifth inning with an RBI triple by Cesar Serna with 1 out. Garrett Brown put up two more runs with 2 outs by way of a 2-RBI single.

Golden West struck back right away in the bottom of the fifth inning as Kyle Stahl drove in James Stea and Frank Califano with 1 out to make the score 3-2. Along with Stahl, Califano gave the Rustlers chances to score going 3-for-5 with a double. Unfortunately for the Rustlers, those 2 runs would be the last to score and the nightmare was just beginning.

Following a run in the sixth inning, Santa Ana kept its scoring onslaught going in the seventh inning with a 2-RBI double by Logan Roberts. Manny Segura scored right after that on a wild pitch and Cody Bistline hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-2.

Santa Ana would score one more in the eighth inning, but was not done there adding 5 runs in the ninth inning. Ryan Aguilar drove an RBI single with 1 out to make the score 10-2. The Don's loaded the bases and Daniel Martinez crushed a grand slam to left-center field.

Golden West will look to return to its winning ways against Orange Coast Thursday.
