Rustler Baseball Forces Pirates Off the Plank

Huntington Beach, Calif. -  The Rustler's (11-6, 1-3) end their 4 game losing streak with a hard fought 6-2 win over the Orange Coast College Pirates (10-9, 1-3).

It was a total team effort win, as every player in the lineup recorded a hit on the day. It all started in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a sac fly by Gianni Castillo to deep center field that scored Chris Gilbody from 3rd base. The Rustler's took the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th inning thanks to a John Shattles' 2 RBI single that landed just fair down the right field line.

Five player's recorded multi-hit games, Gilbody went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored, Dillon Persinger went 2 for 2, Chris Rodriguez went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored, Cody Marshall went 2 for 4 with a walk, and Shattles went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Overall the offense more than doubled the Pirates hits (16 – 7) which helped seal the game in the middle innings.

Sophomore Marshall earned his fourth win of the season lasting 7 innings and scattering 7 hits while only giving up 2 runs. Joshua Gogue came in to shut the door in the 8th and 9th inning picking up his second save.

Next: The Rustler's will travel to Orange Coast College for game 2 of the 3 game series. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.
