Golden West Sinks Pirates 10-6

Huntington Beach, Calif. – The Rustler's (12-7, 2-4) sunk the OCC Pirates (11-10, 2-4) 10-6 this afternoon at Hoover Field to take the 3 game series 2-1.

Sophomore John Shattles got the Rustler's on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning, giving Golden West the lead 1-0. The Pirates would respond in the top of the 3rd inning with 2 runs to take their only lead of the game 2-1. The GWC tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning on a RBI single by Gianni Castillo scoring Dillon Persinger from second base. The offense would take the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th on a hard hit 2 RBI single by Chris Gilbody. The next batter Persinger, singled home Chris Rodriguez from second to put the Rustler's ahead 5-2. The Rustler's stopped a 7th inning rally by the OCC after they scored 4 runs to cut the lead down to 1 run. The offense remained aggressive and took advantage of an error by the Pirates LF Jake Scott to score 3 more runs and build the lead back up to 10-6.

The pitching duo of Brett Mays (W, 2-0) and Joshua Gogue (Sv, 3) played well enough to earn the win and record the save respectively.

NEXT: The Rustler's will travel to Moorpark Friday, March 25 for a 2pm start.
