Baseball Wins 7-1

Huntington Beach, Calif. – The Rustler's (21-13, 10-9) got back on the winning train today as they beat Cypress College (23-11, 11-8) in the final series of the season 7-1.

The offense wasted little time tailing 2 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 1st inning to take an early 2-0. Tyler Depreta (1 for 4, 2 runs scored, 1BB) led off with a ground ball single through the middle of the infield, Chris Gilbody (2 for 4, 1 RBI) followed with a sac bunt to move Depreta to 2nd base. Dillon Persinger (4 for 4, 2 runs scored, 1BB) singled to left field advancing Depreta to 3rd base when Cody Marshall then came through with a huge RBI single to left center that scored Depreta and advanced Persinger to 3rd base to take a 1-0 lead. Michael Fuchs followed with a RBI chopper deep in the shortstop hole that would allow Persinger to score to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Rustler offense would extend their lead to 3-0 on a RBI single by Daniel Maguire (1 for 4, 1 RBI) that scored Persinger from 3rd base. Cypress would then score their only run of the game in the top of the 6th on a Sac-fly by Nick Reeser that scored Bo Coolen to cut into the lead 3-1. John Shattles (1 for 4, 2 RBI, 1 run scored) would steal the momentum right back in the bottom half of the inning with a 2-run blast to left field to extend the lead to 5-1. The Rustlers would add 2 more insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th to secure a 7-1 victory.

SP Tyler Tungate (W, 7-2) earned his 7th win on the season throwing 7 strong innings scattering 11 hits only allowing 1 run and striking out 5 Chargers. Joshua Gogue (SV, 5) earned his 5th save of the year throwing 2 scoreless innings in relief.
