Fresno, CA - Santa Rosa needed both games on Monday to win their 3rd CCCAA Baseball State Championship (1952 & 2005). Ladd Ah Choy started off with a quality start going five innings giving up only 2 runs. One of the main relievers for Santa Rosa Anthony Bender came in and threw a solid three innings allowing only one unearned run while striking out two hitters. Then in a rare occurrence the Bear Cubs went to their Ace, the Northern California Pitcher of the Year, Alec Rennard, who recorded his first save on the year.
Golden West was first on the board with a basehit in the third inning by Phillip Knapp that fell in the middle of the infield. A sac bunt by Tyler Depreta moved Knapp to second where Chris Rodriguez singled home Knapp.
Santa Rosa in the bottom of the fourth finally got on the board with a run. A leadoff walk by Ryder Kuhns and then an error put runners on the corners. A Zack Hall single scored the Bear Cubs' first run and was followed up by a Myles Andrews drive for their second run. In the top of the fifth Golden West tied the score starting off with a John Shattles' double. After a hit-by-pitch and a double play, Shattles was on third and Christ Rodriguez was able to single him home to tie the score at two.
In the bottom of the sixth the Bear Cubs were able to muster another run. George Foster started with a single to centerfield followed by a sac bunt by catcher Charles Magana, bringing up leadoff hitter Mitch West who drove home Foster with a single to right-center field. Golden West was able to tie up the score with two outs in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh the Bear Cubs had a single by Jeff Bart, who then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. The go ahead RBI for Santa Rosa came next off the bat of Zack Hall on a groundball between the 1st and 2nd basemen driving in Bart. In the bottom of the eighth inning doubles by West and Bryce Nagata lead to a run and with two outs Kuhns drove in Nagata for the final run of the championship.
