Rustlers Lose Slugfest 10-8

Rustlers Lose Slugfest 10-8

Huntington Beach, Calif. - A game that saw a combined 29 hits and 18 runs scored in just under three hours ended Golden West's (7-5) seven game winning streak. Sacramento City College (8-3) took advantage of a five run eighth inning to win 10-8.

It was battle all the way till end for the Rustlers as they always had a repsonse to Sacramento City's offense. The top of the first inning, Sacramento City's leadoff hitter made it interesting with a triple. The next batter would single to score the leadoff man from third to put the Rustlers in the hole 1-0. Golden West would respond with a run thanks to a Zakk Morgan (5 for 5, 4RBI) rbi double that scored Chris Rodriguez (2 for 5, 2 runs scored) to even the game at 1-1. Sacramento City would score another run in the top of the third inning and Golden West would respond with two of their own runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead 3-2. Morgan would cash in again to give the Rustlers the lead with his second of five hits on the day.

The sixth inning is where most the action took place as Sacramento City would plate three runs to take back the lead at 5-4. As the story goes, Golden West would respond with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead right back at 8-5. Unfortunately that would be all the Rustler offense would score as Sacramento City would score five more runs in the eigth inning to take the lead for good 10-8. Golden West did load the bases in the bottom of the ninth to try for back to back walk-off wins but couldn't get that clutch hit.

Next: The Rustlers will host Glendale College on Friday February 24th for a 2pm start.
