Baseball Holds Off the Gauchos

Baseball Holds Off the Gauchos

Huntington Beach, Calif. -  Golden West's starting pitcher Taylor Franzman (W, 4-3) carried a one hit shutout into the seventh inning to to earn his fourth victory of the season, 3-2.

The Rustlers (9-7, 1-0) would score all they would need in the bottom of the fourth inning starting with a Myles Moran (1 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored) RBI single that would score Zakk Morgan. Then Junior Aguilar (1 for 3, 2 RBI, 1 run scored) would rope a line drive to center field and thanks to a missed diving catch by the Gauchos (12-5, 0-1) centerfielder, the ball would roll all the way to the fence allowing Aguilar to touch them all for the inside-the-park homerun. The 3-0 lead would be tested in the seventh inning as Saddleback would score two runs on three hits but Adam Moses would come in from the bullpen for the Rustlers to end the threat.

Stephen Knapp came in to earn the save for the Rustlers throwing two innings of no hit ball while surrending one base runner via a walk.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Mission Viejo for game two of the three game series against Saddleback. First pitch scheduled for 2pm.
