Baseball: Big Inning Leads to Big Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Rustler's offense exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring nine runs en route to a blowout victory over rival Orange Coast College, 12-2. 

The offense got on the board in the first inning using a pair of walks and a timely throwing error by the left fielder that skipped into the dugout, to plate two runs and take an early 2-0 lead. Then the offensive explosion in the fifth inning saw the Rustler's send 13 batter's to the plate with five hits and the nine runs scored as the offense stayed patient at the plate. Orange Coast would use four different pitchers in the inning before escaping the long inning. The two major blows in the inning came when Anthony Marquez smacked a two RBI double to right centerfield and Nelson Padilla's two RBI triple over the centerfielders head to make it an 11-0 lead. 

Orange Coast would get there two runs on a two-run homerun in the seventh inning to cut into the big lead 11-2 but Golden West would tack on another run in the eighth to ensure the 12-2 victory. 

Golden West got the start they needed from sophomore left handed pitcher Troy Bethel as well to help cruise to victory as he threw eight innings allowing five hits and two runs while striking out five Pirate batters. 

NEXT: Golden West will host Orange Coast in game two of the series Wednesday March 21st at 230pm. Game was moved up from Friday 3/23 due to impending rain storm.
