Baseball: Mattson Strikes Out 10 in Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West's starting pitcher Luke Mattson throws seven innings, striking out a season high of ten batters, while scattering four hits and one unearned run en route to his second victory of the season.

The Rustler's earned a 5-1 win with great pitching and timely hitting as the offense only managed to record four hits while walking once. Justin Bushell provided the spark in the sixth inning with a lead off double to the right center field gap, after the next couple batter's reached base on fielder's choice, Nelson Padilla hit a hard ground ball to Chaffey's third baseman who fielded the ball cleanly but threw the ball high over the first baseman's head. This allowed Jeremiah Vison to score from first base after he reached on a fielder's choice and Padilla advanced two bases to third base. Padilla eventually scored three pitches later on a wild pitch from a Chaffey relief pitcher as the Rustler's took the lead 2-1.

Golden West's offense got creative again in the seventh inning as they were able to score three more runs on two hits, a walk, and hit batsman. The big blow came with two outs in the frame as Vison hit a hustle double to the outfield driving in two runs to provide the final score 5-1.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Moorpark Friday, March 30th for first pitch scheduled at noon.
