Baseball: Sweeps a Very Wet and Cold Weekend in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Golden West baseball squad hit the road this past weekend to play a three game seriese against Bakersfield College.

The Rustlers (7-4) had a succesful weekend as they were able to sweep the Renegades (7-7) 5-4 in game 1, 5-3 in game 2, and 4-3 in game 3. The series started on Thursday with a close game under the lights in which the Rustlers prevailed after they scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead for good, 5-4.

Game 2 got started on Friday as the Rustlers jumped out early to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second advantage of a Bakersfield fielding error that allowed two runs to score on one play. The game was then suspended at the end of the third, due to continue the next morning, after rain started to come down. Bakersfield made the most of the rain suspension as they were able to cut into the 4-0 lead and make it a one run ball game heading into the top of the ninth at 4-3. However, the Rustlers would score an insurance run in the top of the ninth to clinch a 5-3 victory.

Game 3 saw Golden West continue to be clutch late as they scored three runs in the ninth and tenth innings to come from behind and win 4-3. The Rustlers were determined to go home with the sweep, as they scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 3-3 and push it to extra innings. In the top of the tenth Golden West knocked in a run to go ahead 4-3. The Renegades were unable to answer in the bottom half and dropped the third game of the series.
