Baseball: Stuarts 3-Run Blast Propels Rustlers; Extends Win Streak

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West baseball squad continues to find ways to win, beats Moorpark 3-2.

In game that saw little offense from the Rustlers (11-4), out hit by the Raiders 10-4, it took one 3-run blast off the bat of freshman third baseman Ely Stuart to claim the victory. Moorpark would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning as they were able to string together three singles and a well placed ground out.

Lightning struck in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore Josue Lopez hit a single with one out to get things started. Catcher Austin Schell followed with a single of his own, which setup Stuart to clear the bases with a 3-run homerun that cleared the leftfield scoreboard.

Sophomore Micah Wallette got the nod on the mound for the Rustlers throwing five innings and surrendering eight hits and two runs with three walks and a five strikeouts. The bullpen only gave up two hits in four innings of work as Wyatt Adams pitched an inning and two thirds, while Josh Ibarra shut the door throwing the remaining two and 1/3 innings.

Next: The Rustlers will travel to Moorpark on Saturday, March 2 for a 12pm (noon) start.
