Baseball: Rustlers Drop Game Three and Series to Gauchos

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The old tale of good pitching beats any offense came true for the Golden West baseball squad as they drop the final game of the series with Saddleback 11-3.

The Rustler (16-11, 5-7) offense started the game with six stirkeouts in the first seven batters against the Gauchos (15-12, 5-7) starting right hander, Nick Hernandez. Saddleback took an early 2-0 lead but Golden West responded in the bottom of the third with two runs to tie the ball game 2-2 after three complete innings. Unfortunately, that was the last time the Rustler offense was able to get to Hernandez as he went on to strike out nine Rustlers over eight innings of work.

Rustler starting pitcher Eric Romo, threw in and out of trouble over his four and 1/3 innings pitched scattering seven hits and three walks while surrendering four runs.

The offense was highlighted by a Zakk Morgan RBI double in the third inning to tie the game and a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth by Nelson Padilla, his first long ball of the season.

Golden West will start their three game series with district rival Orange Coast College on Tuesday April 2nd at OCC for a 2pm first pitch.
