Baseball: Flexes Power with Three Home Runs in Loss

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The ball was jumping out of Fred Hoover Field as a combined four homeruns were hit and 20 runs crossed the plate as Golden West fell to Orange Coast 15-5 in Orange Empire Conference play.

Leadoff hitter, Seth Nelson was a triple short of the cycle today as he went 3 for 3 at the plate with a hit by pitch and ended the game with his first home run of the season in the ninth inning. Teammates Jeff Zordani and Bobby Santos (2-run) each hit a blast to add to the Rustlers (16-13, 5-9) 11 hits. Unfortunately, the Pirates (24-6-1, 11-3) offense came ready and pounded 14 hits while producing 15 runs for the 15-5 win.

Golden West reached deep into the bullpen today as five different Rustlers got on the mound. Micah Wallette got the start and lasted five innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and striking out two Pirates. Relief came from Caleb Turner who only lasted a 1/3 of inning while giving up four runs on three hits and Nathan Bena through two innings giving up three runs on two hits. Freshman Bryce Ruggeroli and Carter Schmitz finished out the game giving up a run apiece on one hit each.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Orange Coast tomorrow April 5th to finish out the three game series with a 2pm start.
