Baseball: Wins a Wild One Against the Hornets

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Baseball isn't always pretty, as evident in today's opener of the final three game series of the regular seasons 10-7 victory over Fullerton College.

The Rustlers (23-14, 9-10) defense committed three errors and the pitching staff walked seven Hornets (10-25, 5-14) in their winning efforts. The offense came through with some clutch hits to guide Golden West to victory.

Nelson Padilla became the first Rustler to come through clutch as he hit a two RBI double down the left field line to tie the ball game in the third inning 2-2. Jesse Fonteboa led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a huge triple to ignite the Rustler dugout which led to an Austin Schell RBI single to put the Rustlers ahead for good. Justin Simpson later in the fourth inning with two outs, came through in the clutch has he belted a two RBI double to make it a 5-2 Rustler lead after four innings. Fullerton would get a run back in the fifth inning to cut into the lead 5-3.

Golden West would respond in the bottom of the sixth inning when Seth Nelson hit a one out bases clearing triple to left center field to extend the lead to 8-3. Fullerton's bats caused some raucous in the top of the eighth as they were able to plate three runs on four hits to make it a 8-6 lead for Golden West. Undeterred, the Rustler offense bounced right back when Padilla came through again with a two RBI single through the middle of the infield to comfortably give a 10-6 lead. Fullerton would plate another run in the top of the ninth but that was all the noise they were going to make as reliever Bryce Ruggeroli would strike out the side to end the game.

NEXT: Golden West will travel to Fullerton on Thursday April 25th for a 2pm start.
