Greensboro, NC. - The 2019 ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association Division All-Region teams have been announced and two Rustlers have earned their honors for their work on the field. Top reliever and spot starter Josh Ibarra earned a first team spot and freshman designated hitter, Seth Nelson earned second team honors.
Ibarra, a UC Irvine commit finished his sophmore season tied for the Orange Empire Conference lead with eight saves, second in conference with a 1.90 earned run average, and third in conference in strikeouts with 68. Not only did he get it done in conference play but overall Ibarra finished with a 4-1 record to along with his eight saves. He led the Rustlers with 84 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched while only surrendering 13 runs, 11 that were earned.
Nelson, batted .320 with 15 doubles, three triples, and three homeruns. He led the team in RBI's (31) and stolen bases (9), finished second on the team in hits (47), triples (3), home runs (3), and runs scored (31).
The selection process is led by the ABCA Pacific Association Division All-America Committee, which is chaired by Paul Moore of the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association. The Pacific Association Division is comprised of junior colleges from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be released on Wednesday, June 5. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on June 19. The ABCA National Pitchers of the Year will be announced on June 24, followed by the ABCA National Position Players of the Year on June 26.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
