Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West College baseball team opened the 2020 campaign with a seven-inning shortened game due to darkness with a win 13-6 Friday afternoon. They then turned around on Saturday and lost 12-7 to Palomar College on the road. 

The offense came out swinging in Friday's marathon seven inning win as Golden West scored 13 times with a seven run outburst in the fourth inning. The Comets changed pitchers to start the fourth inning and the Rustlers let loose as Enrique Bennett plated two runs with a single and teammate Noah Amenta followed two batters later with a RBI single to centerfield. Justin Simpson put the explamation point when he crushed a three RBI double to the left centerfield gap to cap the seven run fourth inning. 

The game quieted down for a little while till Palomar scored two-runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning. Nick Craddock earned his first win of the season in relief after throwing 3.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits. 

The game was originally suspended and scheduled to be completed Satuday but both teams agreed to end it and start fresh Saturday for their next game. 

Saturdays game came down to the Rustlers bullpen failing to maintain the lead and spoiling Steven Salazar from earning his first win of the season. Salazar tossed 4.1 innings allowing four runs on six hits while holding onto a 6-4 lead, reliever Caleb Turner came in and surrendered five runs on six hits to take the loss. 

Offensively, Golden West was led by Luke Chung who recorded three RBI's while going 2 for 5 at the plate and Jesse Fonteboa who also went 2 for 5 at the plate with one RBI.
