Baseball: Falls Short in Comeback Bid in Slug-fest

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West baseball team fell behind 7-0 and couldn't overcome the deficit in their 11-8 loss to Grossmont College.

Down 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the offense finally came to life and scored five runs on five hits to cut into the Griffins lead 7-5. Noah Amenta and Justin Simpson highlighted the inning with back to back singles that would plate three runs to take some momentum back. Grossmont would answer right back in the top half of the sixth inning by plating three runs to extend their lead to a comfortable five runs.

The Griffins would score a lone run in the eighth inning to make it 11-5 before the Rustlers comeback bid in the bottom of the ninth. Golden West would send seven batters to the plate in the final frame highlighted buy two big hits, Luke Chung's RBI double and Seth Nelson's bases clearing two RBI triple. Unfortunately, Nelson's triple was the final hit for Golden West as they would hit two fly outs to end the game at 11-8.
