Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West College selects Drew Ramos to be the third head baseball coach is program history.

Fred Hoover served as the first head coach for 22 seasons, followed by newly retired Bert Villareal for 32 seasons. When asked what it meant to be the third head coach in program history Ramos exclaimed "this is something I held in the highest regards. I am beyond grateful and realize just how fortunate I am to be in this position." He went on to talk about how important it is to make Coach Hoover and Villareal proud of what they've accomplished, and he has ensured the program is in great hands.

Ramos was a Golden West baseball student-athlete in 2002 as a second baseman out of Long Beach Poly. After an injury ended his playing days, he returned to LB Poly to coach while he completed his associate degree at GWC.

Ramos returned to the Rustlers in the fall of 2012 as a recruiting coordinator and outfielder's coach. He helped guide the Rustlers to their first Orange Empire Conference title since 2004. For the 2016 season, he accepted an offer to be the assistant coach at the University of Nevada-Reno where he served as the outfielder's coach and camp coordinator. The team fell one game shy of qualifying for the NCAA regional tournament as they lost in the Mountain West Conference championship to New Mexico State.

Ramos just had this itch he couldn't shake and came back to the Rustlers for the 2017 season. This time, as recruiting coordinator, working with the outfielders, and now committed to transferring student-athletes to the four-year level. In those four seasons he has succeeded in committing more than 80 student-athletes to the next level with 35 of them going to a division I schools. Coach Villareal mentioned "I can't wait to see the program progress under Drew's leadership. He has all the skills to be a great head coach. His recruiting and networking skills are top notch."

When asked what Ramos looks to accomplish in his first season as head coach he stated "the goal will be the same as it has always been when I first became a Rustler. We are going to develop our players, get them moved onto the next level, and try to win the last game of the season. #Rustlersready"
