Rustlers Earn 9 Spots in All-OEC Honors

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West baseball has won the Orange Empire Conference and has now seen nine Rustlers make the All-OEC teams. 

At the helm for the squad was Head Coach Andrew Ramos who won Coach of the Year. Leading the charge from the mound is Pitcher of the Year, Alex Ramos who also earned first team honors. Ramos led the conference in wins with a 9-2 record, had the best ERA in the conference with a 1.90 ERA and was atop the OEC in strikeouts with 80 Ks. Co-player of the conference went to Jack Salmon as he was second in the conference with 11 home runs, led his team in batting average with .347 and collected 51 hits. 

For first team accolades outfielder freshman Kaleb Duncan earned a spot. He tied first in the conference with stolen bases, led Golden West with 58 hits and was the only Rustler with three triples. Zech Samayoa was selected to the first team as a designated hitter. Samayoa finished the season tied for most home runs with 12, landed fifth in RBIs with 46 and ended the season with a .605 slugging average. 

Golden West had four additional players placed on the second team All-OEC. Right handed pitcher Jack Smith earned a spot in the second team list as he pitched 52.2 innings and struck out 39 batters. Catcher Ayden Garcia led the team in walks with 32, smacked seven home runs and totaled 34 RBIs. First baseman Andrew Kirchner walloped eight home runs, 44 hits and 30 walks. Infielder Robert Castillo collected 29 RBIs, 47 hits and played stellar defense all season long. 

Head Coach Andrew Ramos and the rest of Golden West College Athletics is proud to see eight Rustlers crack the All-Conference honor list. 

All-OEC First Team:

 

Alex Ramos (Sophomore) - Pitcher of the Year

Jack Salmon (Sophomore) - Co-Player of the Year

Kaleb Duncan (Freshman) - Outfielder

Zech Samayoa (Sophomore) - Designated Hitter

 

All-OEC Second Team:

 

Jack Smith (Sophomore) - Pitcher

Ayden Garcia (Sophomore) - Catcher

Andrew Kirchner (Sophomore) - First Baseman

Robert Castillo (Sophomore) - Infielder

UP NEXT: Golden West is set to host the first round of the 3C2A postseason bracket against San Diego on Friday, May 3rd. First pitch will be at 2pm.
