The ironic thing about Saturday's Golden West-El Camino game was that everything seemed to unravel after the Rustlers grabbed their biggest lead of the night.

Unbeaten El Camino scored 14 consecutive points in the final quarter and a half to erase a double-digit deficit and came away with a 24-21 victory at Orange Coast College.

"We were excited to see what our kids would do against great competition," Rustlers coach Nick Mitchell said. "We knew this was going to be a different game and we knew we needed to play perfect to win."

Golden West quarterback Raymond Huizar threw for 211 yards and a pair of scores as the Rustlers (2-1) lost for the first time this season.

On the Warriors' second drive of the game, an 11-play series stalled in the red zone, and El Camino (3-0) settled for three points and the lead on a Jarrin Donald 33-yard field goal.

On the subsequent possession, Huizar connected with Jared Cohen on a fade from the 1-yard line to give the Rustlers the lead.

In the second, Dashawn Miller returned an interception 11 yards for a TD.

After the score, El Camino quarterback Omar Herrera cut into the deficit with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jarrad Shaw.

In the third quarter, Huizar hooked up with Ryan Watson on a 17-yard touchdown pass to give the Rustlers their biggest lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Kenneth Holmes swung all momentum in the Warriors' favor with an 87-yard kickoff return touchdown.

Golden West came back and took its next possession to the El Camino 4-yard line, but came away scoreless after losing a fumble.

In the fourth quarter, Herrera connected with Holmes (7 catches, 105 yards) for the winning 25-yard TD.
