Rustler are stung in Overtime

The Fullerton College football squad improved to 4-0 on the season on Saturday night against a very skilled Golden West team (2-2) outlasting the Rustlers 29-26.

The Rustlers did not waste any time getting the ball into the end zone on their very first possession on a 9-yard pass to WR Jared Cohen from QB Ray Huizar.

The Hornet offense sputtered early unable to find any rhythm in the 1st Quarter.

Golden West put FC in a hole going up 14-0 at the 13:06 mark in the 2nd Quarter when WR Ryan Watson caught a 50-yard pass from Huizar.

Fullerton swiftly answered back on a 1-yard over-the-top dive by Kelvin York with 8:31 on the clock in the 2nd Quarter. Kicker Jesse Sandoval cut down the Rustler lead hitting on a 42-yard field goal with 1:02 left in the half.

GWC kicker Danny Anya answered back with a 23-yarder as time expired giving the Rustlers a 17-10 lead going into the half.

Sandoval hit a personal best 47-yard field goal at the 8:48 mark in the 3rd Quarter. Then, with 6:19 left in the 3rd, WR Keyon Lee gave the Hornets their first lead (20-17) of the game on a 22-yard pass by QB Conor Bednarski.

Golden West would not go away as their special teams unit hurt the Hornets on a blocked punt that went for 6-points when Scot Bailey took it back 27 yards.

Sandoval stepped up again for the Hornets chipping in a 19-yard field goal with 4:25 left in the game knotting up the score at 23 apiece.

The FC defense held strong for the remainder of the regulation forcing overtime.

The Rustlers won the coin toss electing to have the first possession and scored on a 35-yard field goal giving GWC at 26-23 edge.

On the second play of the Hornet's possession, Bednarski scrambled around as the pocket collapsed and hit a wide open Willie Clark Jr. in the middle of the end zone giving Fullerton the 29-26 victory.
