Golden West blows out Orange Coast, keeps the Victory Bell

Costa Mesa, Calif. - It was all Golden West from start to finish as the Rustlers pummeled Orange Coast 52-7 and won The Battle for the Bell for the fourth year in a row.

Golden West (8-1, 4-1) started the game the greatest way possible with double pass from quarterback Chris d'Entremont to Luke Pastell who rifled a 74-yard touchdown to Nik Little. Kicker Peter Marquez added a 32-yard field goal to make the score 10-0 for the first quarter.

Quarter number two is when the Rustlers' scoring onslaught began courtesy of d'Entremont. First was a 1-yard sneak after a 16-yard pass to Marcus Sanchez to get to the 1-yard-line and then a 21-yard pass to Little. Running back Ryan Hunley put on a show with his legs scoring on a 31-yard rush with 14 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Even though the score was 31-0, Golden West did not let up scoring three more times in the second half. D'Entremont was at it again scoring on a 9-yard rush and then through the air to Dylan Hall for a 27-yard touchdown. Golden West's quarterback would finish the game with 4 total touchdowns and 218 all-purpose yards. Hunley put the icing on the cake with an 80-yard scoring rush giving him 136 yards on the ground.

The top defense in Southern California was even better than normal. Sacks were king as DelRoy Steele led with 2 and seven defenders were involved with bringing down Orange Coast's quarterbacks for a total of 10. Interceptions also ruled the game as Anthony McNichols, Kapena Olsen and Nate Simon each recorded a pick.

It was a rough day for Orange Coast (3-6, 1-4) missing two field goals and being held scoreless for 50 minutes. Orange Coast did eventually break up the shutout as quarterback Jon Newsom connected with D.J. McFadden for a 20-yard touchdown with 47 seconds remaining in the game. Because of Newsom's problems, he was benched at halftime in favor of Cameron Beidgoly who played until the Pirates' final drive.

Golden West has a bye next Saturday, and the final regular season game will be played on Nov. 16 at Saddleback College.
