Rustlers, d’Entremont keep rolling

Golden West extends its winning streak to three games on the back of Chris d'Entremont downing Palomar 33-19 Saturday night at LeBard Stadium.

After a month-long road trip, Golden West (6-2, 3-1) returned to LeBard Stadium and neither the fans, nor the Rustlers, left disappointed. Following a 24-yard field goal from Palomar's Patrick Koch, Rustlers' quarterback Chris d'Entremont led the offense 71 yards to set up his first score, a 3-yard rush.

Thanks to a bad snap on fourth down, Golden West took over at Palomar's 45-yard-line, which set up the most exciting touchdown of the season. D'Entremont escaped pressure and hurled the ball 39 yards into the outstretched arms of the diving Quest Truxton to put the Rustlers up by two scores early.

Koch drained a 41-yard field goal to close the gap a little, and because of penalties, the Comets scored on a reverse pass from MJ Bailey to Wyatt Paterson later in the second quarter.

Throughout most of the game, the Rustlers could not stop committing penalties. Golden West was penalized 13 times for 96 yards, which extended drives and led to Palomar scoring points. Penalties were also troublesome for the Comets, committing 10 for 78 yards.

Palomar reduced the score all the way down to one point courtesy of a 58-yard punt return score by Damon Nolan. Fortunately, the Rustlers' offense was not phased and the defense stepped up allowing zero points in the second half.

D'Entremont finished off his final two scoring drives in the third quarter completing passes of 17 and 57 yards to Zimari Manning. California's passing leader finished the night going 16-29 with 305 yards and 4 scores.

Next Saturday, Nov. 8, Golden West takes on rival Orange Coast in "The Battle for the Bell" at 6 p.m.
