Footballs Opens Season with Shutout of Glendale

Glendale, Calif. – The Golden West defense was the key to the victory Saturday night as they shutout Glendale College 33-0. The defense gave up a total of 185 yards and only 67 yards rushing. The front seven were stout while giving up only 2.3 yards a rush and recording four sacks on the night.

The Rustler offense was a bit sluggish through the first quarter, but exploded in the 2nd quarter for 20 of the teams 33 points. Sophomore quarterback Adam Vance (11 for 21, 158 yards, 3TD) threw a 6 yard pass to wide out Zimari Manning. Then the defense got into the mix when Matthew Posey jumped on a fumble in the end zone to extend the lead to 13-0 after a failed extra point by Quinton Conaway. Just before half the offense struck again when Vance threw a 41 yard touchdown pass to Sheldon White for the 20 to 0 halftime lead.

Coming out of halftime Golden West put together its best scoring drive of game as they marched down the field with a good mixture of passing and rushing which resulted in a 1 yard rushing touchdown for Gabriel Ford (17 rushes for 133 yards). Just for good measure Vance threw his third touchdown pass of the game when he connected with Derrick Deese for a 36 yard touchdown strike.

NEXT: The Rustlers will play Riverside City College in a matchup between two preseason top 10 teams in state at LeBard Stadium at Orange Coast College, 6PM kickoff.
