Football: Arredondo Kicks the Rustlers Past the Griffins

El Cajon, Calif. - The 2018 Golden West College football team is going bowling thanks to a 33 yard field with 3:01 left in the game by Jose Arredondo to beat Grossmont College 17-14. 

The Rustlers (6-4, 3-2) used two long drives in the second quarter to score both their touchdowns, problem was, Grossmont (1-9, 1-4) used the same tactic. The Griffins took a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter on a seven play 81 yard drive, scoring on a 40 yard passing touchdown. Golden West tied the game 7-7 on the very next possession, driving 73 yards on six plays, ending with a 10 yard rushing touchdown by Dante Swayne. Grossmont immediately responded with a quick four play 87 yard drive, this time scoring on a 30 yard pass. The Rustlers would take the very next possession and march down the field on a ten play 67 yard drive as Robzel Sylvester caught a five yard touchdown pass from QB Beau Kalbacher

The rest of the game a was tug of war for field position, stalled drives, and turnovers. Golden West happened to find the winning score come from the foot of their field goal kicker Arredondo from 33 yards to clinch the win 17-14. 

With the win, Golden West will now travel to Cerritos College for the Southern California Bowl on Saturday, November 17th at 6pm.
