Football: Dominates Vikings From Start to Finish, Head into Bye Week

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West dominated this afternoon from the kickoff to the final whistle to earn their fourth win in five games, as they take care of business against visiting Long Beach City College 37-20.

The Rustlers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a Jake Cipres 25 yard field goal and a Jake Retzlaff 16yd touchdown pass to wide out Tanner Branson. Long Beach would respond with two field goals to cut into the lead 10-6 before Retzalff would connect again with Branson for a 16yd touchdown to extend the Rustlers lead to 17-6 in the second quarter. Freshman Mike Carrillo would extend the Golden West lead on a 11yd rushing score to lead the Rustlers to the locker room at the half, 24-6.

The ground game between Gianni Hurd and Carrillo would carry Golden West in the second half as they both had career days. Hurd tallied 11 touches for 107 yards with an impressive 9.7 yards per carry and Carrillo had nine carries for 64 yard and an equally impressive 7.1 yards per carry.

Cipres kicked two second half field goals, 22 yards and 36 yards, and Hurd ripped off a 56 yard touchdown run to account for the second half scores for Golden West.

The defense had a bend but don't break attitude this afternoon as they recorded three takeaways and four sacks. The Rustler defense forced two fumbles and defensive back Elias Hernandez came up with lone interception.

Golden West heads into the bye week at 4-1 before they travel to Southwestern on 10/16 for a 6pm kickoff.
