League-leading Rustlers travel to Cerritos for regular-season road finale

Golden West College will hit the highway for the 15-mile trip north to Norwalk to take on Cerritos College on Saturday night (Nov. 4). Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Falcon Stadium.

STATE RANKINGS | Golden West holds the No. 7 spot in the both the JCAB and CCCSIA state polls for the second consecutive week. The Rustlers are the fourth-ranked Southern California school behind Riverside, Mt. SAC, and Fullerton. Cerritos is unranked in both polls.

ABOUT GOLDEN WEST | The Rustlers continue to hold the top spot in the National Central League, tied with Mt. SAC, at 5-0 in league play. GWC has won six straight and enters Saturday's contest with a 7-1 overall record. The Rustlers lone loss of the season came to Riverside in Week 2.

Golden West is coming off a 24-3 win over Long Beach at home last week. The GWC defense allowed a first-quarter field goal to the Vikings but went on to shutout the potent LBCC offense the rest of way.

The Rustlers totaled 4 sacks, forced 3 fumbles, and intercepted a pair of passes. Terrel Taylor and Kaymen Su'E led the defense with 6 tackles each.

On offense, GWC totaled 434 yards in the contest. Quarterback Braden Siri completed 13 of 20 passes for 213 yards and a TD. Tru Tanner led receivers with 6 catches for 95 yards. And Jae'Sean Pete led a balanced Golden West ground attack with 9 rushers for 50 yards.

ABOUT CERRITOS | The Falcons are currently 4-4 overall and tied for fifth in the National Central League with a 2-3 mark. Cerritos snapped a three-game losing streak last week thanks to a 34-20 win at San Bernardino Valley.

The Falcons' defense came up big in the win by collecting 4 interceptions. Linebacker EJ Smith picked off two passes and returned both for touchdowns. His first interception TD return gave a Cerritos a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and the Falcons never looked back.

LAST MEETING | Golden West and Cerritos face off for the first time since 2018. The two squads closed out the season competing in the Southern California Bowl at Falcon Stadium with the Rustlers suffering a 21-9 loss.

GWC quarterback Beau Kalbacher completed 27 of 42 passes for 339 yards with 1 TD. He tossed a 39-yard touchdown to Brailon Mouton and Jose Arredondo booted a 42-yard field goal to account for the Rustlers' scoring.

For Cerritos, future Oklahoma University and New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for 230 yards and 2 TDs.
