Rustlers Tie in Final Home Game Appearance

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West men' soccer (6-6-7, 5-4-3 OEC) tied their final home game against the Cypress Chargers (7-8-4, 5-4-3 OEC), 2-2.

For their last home game of the season, Golden West welcomed the Cypress Chargers for their second and final meeting. With identical conference records, the two teams looked to find a way into the playoff bracket. The physical matchup was a game of possession and field position as each side had key opportunities.

The Rustlers broke through first on the scoreboard with a goal at the 36th minute. From action within the box, Diego Pinion was able to strike the ball past the Cypress keeper to break the scoreless tie. As time continued to expire, the home team looked to find an insurance score.

With an extra minute added to the end of the first half, the Rustlers managed to extend their lead. On a corner kick, a great cross allowed Joel Garcia to head in the ball to the back of the net to double their advantage, 2-0.

Though Golden West was in control of the first half, the script flipped in the final 45 minutes. Cypress managed to cut their deficit in half with a goal at the 68th minute. With the momentum shifted, the Chargers found the net a second time to tie the match. With chances on both ends, neither side was able to take the lead and the game finished in a tie, 2-2.

Piñion scored the inaugural goal of the game for the Rustlers with four shots and three being on goal. Garcia scored the second score with his header from his only shot on the day. In net, Daniel Barragan played all 90 minutes to save two shots. With the tie, Rustlers men's soccer finish their home schedule and have two road games remaining.
