Golden West Men's Volleyball Moves to CCCAA State Finals

Long Beach, Calif. - The Golden West College Rustlers knocked off Western State Conference champion Los Angeles Pierce College 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 in Thursday's first semifinal match of the 2013 CCCAA Men's Volleyball State Championship at Long Beach City College.

With the win, Golden West (No. 2 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference) advances to Saturday's State Championship final at 7 p.m. against Grossmont College at LBCC.

Freshman Matt Hilling totaled 25 kills to provided most of the offense for the Rustlers over the four set match. Sophomore outside hitter Phil Lopez added 10 kills and seven digs for Golden West while sophomore setter Luke Pope had 47 assists.

Golden West, now 16-4 overall, returns to the state final for the first time since 2009 and looks capture the state championship for the first time since 1999. The game will be held at Long Beach City College  at 7pm.
