M Water Polo: Two Big Wins to Open GWC Tournament

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The #1 ranked Golden West College men's water polo team took to the pool early Friday morning to open up the tournament against Sierra College and came away with a 21-5 win. 

The Rustlers were down 2-0 to start the match but rebounded quickly with a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Golden West never looked back as they took control with a 10-4 halftime lead behind Srboljub Filipovic's four first half goals. The defense surrendered one goal in the second half en route to the 21-5 victory. Goalie Garrett Henderson recorded five saves while surrendering five goals and Eamon Hennessey netted four goals to guide the Rustlers in the morning win. 

With the morning victory, Golden West then matched up with Cuesta College in the afternoon to avenge their lone loss on the season. The Rustlers didn't disappoint as they cruised to a 16-9 victory behind Breno Tenet's four goal match. Golden West controlled the match from the beginning with a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and another 10-4 lead at halftime. Augi Macchi would lead Golden West in the second half with two goals to complete the sweep on day one 16-9.
