Softball: Rustlers fall to Riverside 9-3

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West softball team (2-7) lost their fifth game in Orange Empire conference play on Friday against Riverside 9-3.

The Rustler offense managed to score three runs in the bottom of the second inning, which would be the only runs to cross home plate the rest of the game. Two of the runs were brought in by right fielder Makayla Weiser's single. Sara Carpio was the third runner to score as a result of a sacrifice groundout by Helen Ludwig

It was a game of hard-hit singles for the Rustler offense. Center fielder Jazmine Rodriguez led the team in hitting with two singles but unfortunately never made it around the diamond.

"We just need to be more aggressive, both defensively and offensively," Rodriguez said. "I hope we take what we need to from today and work on looking for a pitch we can drive."

Pitcher Sennie Viramontes has yet to earn her first win of the season following this loss. Over seven innings of work, Viramontes gave up 12 hits, nine runs of which six were earned, two free bases, and struckout three Riverside batters.

NEXT: The Rustlers will host LA Harbor on Saturday at 10:30 a.m for a non-conference matchup.
