Softball: Stellar team performance defeats Mt. San Jacinto

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West softball team (4-7, 0-5) is on a two-game winning streak after their 6-2 non-conference win against Mt. San Jacinto on Monday.

The Rustlers took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as left fielder Natalie Rodriguez hit a triple into left center. Rodriguez had a day, going on to hit an RBI double in the third and a single in the fifth, being a homerun short of the cycle. The final three runs belong to Yazmine Banos who hit a single, Jazmine Rodriguez who hit a double, and Sennie Viramontes who hit a sacrifice bunt.

Not only did the Rustlers put together solid at-bats, the defense made major improvements from last week's schedule. This squad made no errors, did not miss a sign, and saw another quality performance from starting pitcher Sennie Viramontes

"She's a bulldog out there, I mean, she doesn't seem to ever get tired, she's hitting her spots, and is battling back," Head Coach Mike Willey said. "Even the other day when we made some errors, she made some quality pitches, and we ended up winning the game for it. She's a mentally tough kid."

In order to maintain this winning streak, and earn that first conference win, the Rustlers must continue not making mistakes out on the field.

"We should go out there, play extremely tough, and be motivated," Willey said. "That was one of our best performances."

NEXT: The Rustlers will host Saddleback at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
