Huntington Beach, Calif. - The 2022-23 Golden West College women's basketball team opened the season with a blowout victory at home over LA Pierce College 81-40 Tuesday night. 

Freshman point guard Vanessa Epperson led all scorer's with 25 points on 9 of 17 shooting while Sheridan Bivins was the only other scorer in double digits with 14 points. 

The Rustlers took an early 17-11 lead after the first quarter but it was the defense in the second quarter that blew this game open as they surrendered four points to Pierce to hold a 42-15 halftime lead. 

The third quarter saw more of the same from the first half as head coach Barry Migliorini kept his foot of the gas pedal to put up another 25 points in the third quarter for the commanding 67-24 lead. Pierce had their best offensive stretch in the fourth quarter but by then the game was already out of reach for the Rustlers to secure win number one of the season. 

Golden West will travel to Taft on Saturday November 5th for a 5pm tipoff.
