Women's Swimming Provides a Powerhouse Combination

Riverside, Calif. - Women's Swimming head in to the last day of the Orange Empire Conference Swimming Championships strong, as they swim toward the title at Riverside City College. 

Day one saw a handful of competitors beat out the Rustlers, but not by much. Melissa Bergesen touched first for the women in the 100 yard IM with a time of 58.95. Next up Lauren Vosseler out swam OCC in the 50 yard Freestyle, taking first in a fast 23.79. 

The ladies then put their efforts together, along with teammates Lia Jorgensen and Brigitta Games in the 400 Medley Relay. This combination of power dominated the regular season, and performed again here in the first day with a time of 3:52.08. 

Friday, Golden West touched first in every event but one. The day featured the individual strengths of the women as they owned their specific event, as well as their cohseivness as a relay.

Vosseler, Games, Jorgensen and Bergesen finished the 200 medley relay in 1:47.33, beating the women of Orange Coast by a few seconds. 

Bergesen took first in the 200 yard IM (2:08.13) with teammate Jorgensen hot on her heals, finishing in 2:10.85.

Games performed at the top of her game in both the 50 yard Fly (25.64) and the 50 yard Breast (29.23).

 Vosseler found herself in first place in the 50 yard Back, touching in 26.91.

For the last event of the day, the women finished without any true competition. The 800 free relay was completed by Vosseler, Bergesen, Jorgensen and Games in 7:37.75, almost 20 seconds ahead of host Riverside City College who took second in 7:59.20.

Saturday will wrap up the Orange Empire Conference Championships with the Finals meet starting at 3:00pm.
