Rustlers Sweep Santiago Canyon in Dominant Fashion

Rustlers Sweep Santiago Canyon in Dominant Fashion

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West women's volleyball (7-2, 3-1 OEC) traveled to Santiago Canyon (0-6, 0-4 OEC) for a dominant sweep victory, 3-0.

After Golden West won in convincing fashion against the 2022 OEC Champion, Irvine Valley Lasers, the Rustlers cracked the top 25 teams in the state. With their set sweep versus the Fullerton Hornets, Golden West stood alone at the No. 24 spot. Though they dropped their first OEC faceoff to Orange Coast, the loss did not diminish their ranking in the state.

With the Pirates match behind them, the Rustlers traveled to Santiago Canyon to take on the Hawks. The winless team kept it interesting in the first set for the visiting Rustlers as Golden West escaped with a 25-23 set win. From there, the No. 24 team in the state took control with two dominant set wins. The Rustlers would go on to win the second set 25-7 and the final set 25-6.

It was a team effort as Maci Hendry stated the most kills with ten, had six digs and one service ace. Peyton McBride was second in kills with eight, recorded five digs and had a service ace. Shea Carroll had the most service aces of the match with five as she also collected three digs. The victory would be Golden West's fifth sweep of the year and third conference win.

NEXT UP: The Rustlers will host No. 12 Cypress Chargers on Friday, September 29th.
