Rustlers Win Big Game in Five Sets Against Riverside Tigers

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West women's volleyball (11-8, 7-7  OEC) hosted and won in five sets against the Riverside Tigers (13-10, 7-6 OEC), 22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 22-25, 15-13. 

On Friday night, the Rustlers took on Riverside at home. With a playoff push on the line, Golden West fought hard against Riverside. The home team dropped the first set in a close finish, 22-25. However, the Rustlers showed their resilience by taking charge of the second set. Golden West would match with a second set win by 11 points, 25-14. 

From there, it was a back and forth battle as each side went strike for strike. The Rustlers and Tigers performed diving digs, strong kills and leaping net blocks. In the third set, Golden West got out to a substantial lead. Though the Tigers attempted to get back into the set, the large early advantage allowed the home team to finish off the third set win, 25-19. 

For the fourth set, the Tigers took and held an advantage midway through. Riverside held their advantage to push the game to the fifth and final set, 22-25. The side that would win long rallies determined the energy of each bench. The Rustlers would make a hard fought and miraculous comeback to win the fifth and final set, 15-13. 

NEXT UP: Golden West will host their final home game against Saddleback on Wednesday, November 8th. The match will begin at 6pm.
