El Cajon, CA – In a weekend dominated by close play and a wide variety of teams, the championship match came down to two undefeated top pairings from Irvine Valley College and MiraCosta College. The pairing of Emily Reinking and Hailee Earnest proved to be the dominant team over the weekend going 8-0 without dropping a set on their way to the 2016 CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairings State Championship. MiraCosta's top pairing of Sizemore and Francis came home as the runner-ups.
The quarterfinals saw the higher seeded team win each match setting up a final four of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 8th seed. Only the fourth seeded Sizemore/Francis from MiraCosta College were not involved in the team championship on Friday. Even more impressively the teams of Reinking/Earnest from Irvine Valley and Rademacher/Puga from host Grossmont entered the semifinals with a spotless 6-0 record throughout the weekend.
The semifinals started with arguably the match of the weekend as Sizemore/Francis and Rademacher/Puga entered the match a combined 9-0 on the weekend. Each team had a loud cheering section with the host Grossmont team rallying down a set to win the second forcing a third and deciding set. A late run by the MiraCosta squad of Sizemore/Francis was enough to punch their ticket into the championship match. In the other semi Reinking/Earnest ran their record to 7-0 over the last remaining North team of Ehritt/Mitchell from Cabrillo College.
Irvine Valley's pairing of Reinking/Earnest entered the final having swept all of their opponents in two-sets over the weekend and having defeated the MiraCosta pairing of Sizemore/Francis 21-13, 21-17 on Tuesday's Regional Finals. IVC took the first set 21-15 and used a 12-3 run in the middle of the second set to record their eighth two-set sweep of the weekend and capture the CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairings State Championship.
