Beach Volleyball Goes 2-1 in Tri-Match

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West beach volleyball traveled to Newland Beach to host a tri-match against Ventura, Santa Barbara, and LA Pierce College. The Rustlers came away with two victories and one tough loss.

In the first match against Santa Barbara, the Rustlers fell 3-2. No. 1 pairs Jazmine Gonzalez and Kate Stanovich went three sets but pulled out the win 21-15, 21-23, and 16-14. The No. 2 pairs of Ashleigh Atsaros and Erica Cantley fell in two sets 19-21 and 12-21. The No. 3 pairs also lost in two sets as Akimi Fujikara and Cherene Uale battled to scored of 19-21 and 10-21. Baileigh Graham and Amanda Sosa dropped their No. 4 pairs match up 12-21 and 16-21. The No. 5 pairs of Samantha Ureno and Melissa Martinez pulled out the win in two sets 21-17 and 21-5.

In match number 2 the Rustlers were able to come away with a 3-2 win against LA Pierce. Gonzalez and Stanjevich lost the No. 1 pairs 20-21 and 19-2. Fujikara and Uale also fell in the No. 3 pairs 15-21 and 15-21. The No. 2 Atsaros and Cantley won in two sets 21-18 and 21-17, the No. 4 pairs of Graham and Sosa won in two sets 21-10 and 25-23, and the deciding win came in the No. 5 pairs as Ureno and Martinez were able to win in two sets 21-9 and 21-11. 

In the final match of the day against Ventura College, Astaros and Cantley lost in two sets by scores of 21-15, 21-18 in the No. 2 pairs, and Megan Wiggins and Uale lost at No. 3 pairs, 21-15, 21-10. Gonzalez and Stanjevich at the No. 1 pairs would win 21-18 and 21-16, followed by another win from Graham and Sosa in the No. 4 pairs in three sets 15-21, 21-18, 15-10. The pressure was on for the No. 5 pairs Ureno and Martinez again but they kept their cool to come away with a three set victory 18-21, 23-21, 15-11 for a 3-2 Golden West victory.
