Franzman Throws Seven Strong Innings in 5-2 Win

Huntington Beach, Calif. – Sophomore starting pitcher Taylor Franzman(1-2) threw seven innings of six hit baseball only surrendering a first inning two run home run on his way to earning the victory.

The Golden West College (2-4) baseball team responded early to Cerritos College's (2-3) attempt to take control of the game after Derrick Edwards hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. The Rustlers used small ball and timely execution to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning. Louie Conjura (3 for 3, 2 runs scored) would single to lead off the bottom of the frame and Jeremiah Vison (1 for 3, 1 RBI) put down a perfect sac-bunt to advance Conjura to second. Zakk Morgan (1 for 3, 2 walks, 1 RBI) followed Vison with an RBI single to score Conjura from second base. Cerritos starting pitcher Gilberto Romero struggled with his command walking the next two batters. That loaded the bases for Nick Tingrides (1 for 3, 1 RBI) to hit a sac-fly to deep left field to score Morgan and even the score at 2-2.

The Rustlers would add another run in the bottom of the second inning on a fielder's choice by Vison scoring Ryan Carpenter who was at third base. The offense would tack on two more run in the bottom of the fourth inning to earn the win 5-2.
